What is a digital certificate?

A digital certificate is a form of electronic passport that allows you to verify your identity online. It uses the techniques of public key encryption - you sign your certificate with a private key and broadcast a public key. That allows remote computers to verify that you are who you claim to be.

What is the eScience digital certificate?

This is a particular type of digital certificate, issued as part of the UK's eScience programme.

Lost Keys

If you lose your key then you are legally obliged to report this to the Registration Operator, and your certificate must be revoked, and then you must reapply
