Background information on eScience Digital Certificates
What is a digital certificate?
A digital certificate is a form of electronic passport that allows you to verify your identity online. It uses the techniques of public key encryption - you sign your certificate with a private key and broadcast a public key. That allows remote computers to verify that you are who you claim to be.
