How to select packages

Important information

Selecting a Package

There are a number of packages installed on the system.

To select a particular package you should use, on the command line, something like the following:

. /wrg/profile.d/package-version.revision

You should also use such a line in any Sun Grid Engine job scripts to ensure the correct environment is set up.

The general format is that a package has a script in /wrg/profile.d/ of the format package-version.revision. For example version 4.1.1 of the Gnu compilers has a script file /wrg/profile.d/gcc-4.1.1

Thus to set up to use the 4.1.1 version of the GNU compilers use

. /wrg/profile.d/gcc-4.1.1

Default Versions of Packages

In addition there will be a default version of the form package. This may change without prior warning so if you need a particular version, stick to using package-version.revision.

Other Options

In some instances there may be sub scripts that are simply package-version. These point to a particular package-version.revision script. For example a script jdk-1.5 is available which points to jdk-1.5.0_12 and also a jdk-1.6 which currently points to jdk-1.6.0. This allows you to select the major versions without worrying about each individual point revision.

Default User Environment

Some elements of the user environment are set up automatically without needing user intervention. An example of this is the script to set up the Sun Grid Engine command set. This exists as /wrg/profile.d/n1ge6 but is called automatically so you do not need to do so explicitly.

The default environment set is:

condor 6.9.4, globus 4.0.7, jdk 1.5.0_12, Sun Grid Engine 6.2
